AUDITION INFORMATION!!

Front and Centre Productions’ IGNITE Youth Theatre Announces OPEN AUDITIONS for the Summer 2021 Production of MATILDA the Musical.  Here is the important information you will need to have a successful audition:
 
WHERE DO I SIGN UP?
  • You can sign up for an In-Person Audition at this link:  https://signup.com/go/ymQwghf
  • You will also need to complete required participation forms here:  https://forms.gle/cwnGnJNDShnTkK4L9
  • All In-Person Auditions are for 15 minute time slots
  • PLEASE do not arrive any earlier than 5 minutes before your audition time
  • You will first sign in and get measured for costuming
  • Then, you will audition for the committee.  You audition will consist of reading a Monologue and singing a song of your choice.  Singing with an accompaniment is preferred, but a cappela is ok also.
  • When you finish, you can leave
 
WHAT IF I CAN’T MAKE IT TO AN IN-PERSON AUDITION?
  • If you are unable to attend an In-Person Audition, you can submit an Audition Video
  • Please make video recording in LANDSCAPE format from the waist up
  • You can make either 1 long video with both your monologue and song, or you can submit 2 separate videos
  • Please make sure to identify yourself in the videos – first and last name and your age
  • You will need a Gmail account or create one to join our Google Classroom and submit via the Classwork
  • The Google Classroom code is klre2io

  • Your Video Audition must be submitted by May 12, 2021 at 9:00 p.m.
 
WHAT DO I PREPARE FOR MY AUDITION?
  • You need to prepare a monologue and a song of your choice

  • Choose a song to perform.  If you are interested in a particular lead role in the show, you should sing a song that character sings in the show.  Here is a list of the characters and songs you could choose:
    • MATILDA:  Naughty
    • MISS TRUNCHBULL:  The Hammer
    • MRS. WORMWOOD:  Loud
    • MISS HONEY:  My House
    • MR. WORMWOOD:  Telly
    • STUDENTS:  When I Grow Up OR School Song
    • ADULT EMSEMBLE ROLES (Escapologist, Doctor, etc.):  Miracle

WHAT ABOUT DANCING?
  • We will hold a Dance Audition for ALL PARTICIPANTS on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at 6:00 p.m.
  • All auditioning should plan to attend this dance audition to help the committee cast the production
  • We will find a place for you to dance – DON’T WORRY!!
 
WILL SOME PEOPLE NOT MAKE THE CAST?
  • Everyone who auditions will be cast in a role in the show
  • Everyone will have stage time in both acts of the production
  • IGNITE Youth Theatre does NOT cut anyone who wants a performing arts experience
 
WHEN WILL THE CAST LIST BE POSTED?
  • The cast list will be posted on our website, in Google Classroom, and on social media HOPEFULLY by Friday, May 14, 2021 at 4:00 p.m.
  • Once the list is posted, all who auditioned will be required to respond to either accept or decline the role in which you were cast
 
WHEN ARE REHEARSALS?
  • Rehearsals are generally weekday evenings between 4:00-9:00 p.m.
  • Not everyone will be called for all rehearsals, every night.  We will only call cast members needed for that rehearsal
  • We do NOT rehearse on Sundays
  • There will be some Saturday rehearsals on an as needed basis
  • Schedule will be posted in Google Classroom and on BAND
 
WHAT IS BAND?
  • BAND is our communication platform where we announce all information about the show
  • It is a free app on both the App Store and Google Play

WHO IS IN CHARGE AND RUNS THE PROGRAM?
  • We have a great production team that will work with everyone to put together a great experience.  Here is our team:
    • PRODUCER – Stephen Switala
    • DIRECTOR – Kyle Kelly
    • MUSIC DIRECTOR – Debi Baker
    • CHOREOGRAPHER – Sam Potter
    • STAGE MANAGER – Justine Washic
    • PRODUCTION ASSISTANTS – Stephen Torquato and Jessica McKee
    • COSTUMING and PROP COORDINATORS – Jen Hahn, Kim Luzier, and Jeannine Wonderling
  • All staff have approved clearances and are educated in proper safety protocols
 
WHAT ABOUT COVID?
  • We take everyone’s safety and well-being very seriously and work hard to make our programs a safe, welcoming place to have a great arts experience.
  • Masks are to be work when entering and exiting the building for everyone
  • Depending on the number of participants at rehearsal will determine if masks will need to be work during rehearsal.  If we can be outside and achieve adequate physical distancing, we will remove masks if it is safe.
  • We will have hand sanitizer throughout the facility and encourage everyone to use it as needed
  • If any participant is ill, has a fever, or any other COVID symptoms, please stay home – notify the appropriate staff member of your absence via BAND or Google Classroom
  • Safety is Priority #1
 
WHEN & WHERE ARE THE PERFORMANCES?
  • Performance dates are tentatively set for July 23, 24, and 25, 2021
  • We say tentatively because our venue this summer is likely to be an outdoor location
  • This location is not yet confirmed, so we are still ironing out those details.
  • There is a possibility the dates may get moved to July 22, 23, and 24, with a rain date of July 25
  • Show Week will be week of July 19, 2021 and all cast are required to be at all rehearsals that week
 
WHAT DOES IT COST TO PARTICIPATE?
  • Thanks to our generous sponsors – Minitab, Blaise Alexander Family Dealerships, Lee Industries, and Sheetz, all cast members this summer can participate for no registration fees!
  • In order to cover production costs, we will be holding various fundraisers throughout the summer.  These will be VERY important, we a budget for a show like this is expensive
  • Here is an idea of some of the costs involved in a musical production:
    • Licensing Royalties:  $3,000
    • Costumes:  $3,000
    • Set/Scenery:  $3,000
    • Facility/Venue Rental:  $2,500
    • Facility Utilities:  $1,000
    • Advertising:  $2,500
    • Printing:  $1,000
    • Pit Orchestra:  $2,000
    • Miscellaneous:  $2,000
    • APPROXIMATE PRODUCTION COSTS:  $20,000
  • We also hope that participants will encourage people to attend the show, because ticket sales will often “make or break” a production.  Ticket are $10.00, with preK and younger children FREE.
